Deep in Spirit

Location:  Oregon, Columbia River

This Nez Percé Indian was part of a dedication ceremony at McNary Dam in 1954 when my husband was a small boy.  His mother took the photo that captured this invocational moment.  I painted it on Yupo, a synthetic surface that aided in blending the paint to enhance the textures of feathers, leather suede tunic and a meditative state of mind. This painting received the Sephen Quiller Award at the New Mexico Watercolor Society Spring Show in 2006.
